Give Me Internet, or Give Me Death

March 9th, 2010

Original Article ( http://b.fsp.im/1201a )

Out of 27,000 people surveyed in 26 countries by the BBC, more than 21,000 believe and consider that the Internet should be a fundamental right – much like food, water, or electricity. Essentially, anything that is required for a standard of modern living as a necessity, and this could mean that in the near future – the Internet is as well.

What is my opinion in all of this. I feel it should be considered as such. Not only that, but I feel that there should be some price regulation to assure that basic internet is affordable to all. When I say affordable, I mean less than 2.5% of poverty, and when I say basic, I mean of at least 1MBPS 97% of the time. This may sound extreme, but what would happen if you lost your electricity more than 3% of the time, or if it was too expensive for everyone to have it.

UPS does not .zip up!

March 9th, 2010

There has been an email scam going around that has been hitting my SPAM box claiming to be UPS, and there was an undeliverable address and they need you to open the .zip file and fill the information, or what ever is needed to do with .zip files by scam artists these days. I have one word for all of you – DON’T

First, let’s address how things with UPS works. First, UPS has all of the addresses in the area they deliver to. If they do not, they would use GPS and map software to find where they are going. Now, if for some reason, the shipping agent – whether UPS, the UPS store, or anything similar didn’t know how to use the software to find this information, and make sure it was accurate, then it would be stopped at a distribution center. Simply put, no tracking number would be issued because it can’t go anywhere.

2010-03-08: What Happened?

March 9th, 2010

Today, I woke up early, but was in a bit of pain, so I never made it to the post office before 9AM. Since that was the case, I didn’t go at all since UPS could have came at the time. Needless to say, UPS didn’t come until about 6:15PM. On the good news, at least I got my phone replaced.

On the bad news though, they sent me one with Android 1.5 which lacks a number of features I use regularly. I can only hope that over night, my phone would prompt me to update to 1.6. One of the big differences I would use very regularly is the bus transit directions that are on Google Maps. Currently in 1.5, it would seem as if only driving directions are available. The next time I would have to take a bus would be Wednesday.
