Give Me Internet, or Give Me Death

March 9th, 2010

Original Article ( http://b.fsp.im/1201a )

Out of 27,000 people surveyed in 26 countries by the BBC, more than 21,000 believe and consider that the Internet should be a fundamental right – much like food, water, or electricity. Essentially, anything that is required for a standard of modern living as a necessity, and this could mean that in the near future – the Internet is as well.

What is my opinion in all of this. I feel it should be considered as such. Not only that, but I feel that there should be some price regulation to assure that basic internet is affordable to all. When I say affordable, I mean less than 2.5% of poverty, and when I say basic, I mean of at least 1MBPS 97% of the time. This may sound extreme, but what would happen if you lost your electricity more than 3% of the time, or if it was too expensive for everyone to have it.

Apple’s Solution to Competition – SUE THEM!

March 7th, 2010

Original Article ( http://b.fsp.im/1194a )

Apple is bring legal action against HTC to prevent importing of further Nexus Ones to the US. While Nexus One is the “Google Phone”, it is manufactured by HTC which is very well known for having the largest selection of Android devices. Such would include T-Mobile’s G1, and MyTouch as well as a few others.

So what is all of the hype about? Apple claims that 20 patent ideas were stolen from Apple in the development of the G1. Ironically, multi-touch does not seem to be one of these ideas. However, one that was mentioned was Swipe to Unlock feature. So, what does this mean to everyone, and why is all of this going on? Well, I don’t have any inside knowledge, but let’s look at some common sense ideas, shall we?

I May Get Some Air, but Not Holding My Breath.

February 17th, 2010

Finally, Adobe is expecting to provide Flash, and Air to Android and RIM devices sometime this year. I have been hearing this promise for a year now, but it was noted again in the Mobile World Conference in Spain. And I feel this would do well, but I have some questions about whether it is too little too late.

Now, I am all for making my smart phone smarter, but there could be some things to consider. While looking into the Adobe’s web site, it is noted that Flash (the editor, and not the player) is going to be required to create Air apps. This could deter people who are trying to create apps for the phone, but on a tight budget – especially since it requires a minimum of a 1Ghz with 32 bit support, and a $700 price tag for Flash. Since most OSes coming out are 64 bit, is Flash going to support the new systems, and if not – that means trying to find a new computer with a 32 bit OS.

I’m just one of 7.7 Million

February 12th, 2010

Original Article ( http://b.fsp.im/1155a )

Last year, I bought the HTC My Touch (aka Magic) for my T-Mobile line to upgrade from an old Blackberry 8320. I needed a phone that had 3G, and GPS. The fact that it would have been a touch screen was just a bonus.

Now, this is in respect to all Android based devices. This includes G1, Droid, Eris, Hero, and many others from every of the major 4 carriers except AT&T which is still licking Apple’s butt hole to want something that in my opinion is better. This means that a 1074% increase from 2008 (almost 11 times as many), and is expected to be second only to Symbian which seems to have a near complete dominance in Asia. Just so you know, Apple does not use Symbian.

Dell’s Done a Blunder

February 12th, 2010

One of the biggest names in the Personal Computers have decided to do a blunder. They just sent filings to the FCC for their Dell Mini 3, and Dell Mini 5 with 3 and 5 inch screens respectively. These devices would run Android, but like Archos – would probably be a slaughtered version of it which may not work with Android Market without a bit of hacking.

Another issue is that this company unknown in the cellular phone business is going to do something that most such companies would not, and that is lock themselves to one carrier. In the United States, they would be only available with AT&T. Keep in mind that AT&T has had a number of issues with high demanding devices. In New York City, and San Francisco, these networks are simply not able to handle the iPhone (3G Versions). And already, they are trying to educate customers in how they are using their smart phones so they won’t use so much of the service they pay for.
