FSP.CC too boring with daily updates? Not Anymore!

June 7th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

For a long while, I have been writing daily updates of my life on this blog. Everything that would happen through the day would be giving its own post, and published online. However, it would seem as time went on, I have been getting fewer visitors which would lead me to believe that the readers of fsp.cc has little or no interests in what goes on with my life.

So, instead of me making my views thoughts, and rants a part of my daily update of my life, I will be separating them. Today is the last day of daily postings of my life (Category: Daily Updates), and instead such would be moved over to a completely different site. And while I could have made another fsp.cc address, I decided to use my .name sub domain.

Hmm, Still No More Toktumi

Referring to ( http://www.fsp.cc/908/ )

Back in late November of 2009, I had canceled Toktumi, and posted it, as well as the reason why on this blog site. And shortly afterwards, someone that claimed to be the CEO of the company replied on my post, and said I had made some very good points on the pointless action of blocking pay phones. Their reasoning was sound. They charge $15 per month for unlimited incoming calls, and therefore could actually be used as the main number. They have RIM, and Apple apps, and for a business standpoint, a cost effective service – especially if there is a lot of incoming calls with just one issue – no pay phone support.

And I can relate why. Pay phone carriers charges a surcharge so they can still make money. I believe this charge is 35¢, and if enough pay phone calls were to come in, there would be a loss taken rather than a profit. And the toll free number is really a niche market. Companies really don’t have toll free numbers to make sure their customers don’t have to pay high telco charges for long distance. Many people have cell phones, and landlines with domestic long distance calls.

No Dashing Favor for the Dash

May 1st, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

I seen a really nice concept from CES on the Internet. This was the Sony Dash. It was basically designed to be a glorified alarm clock with media playing features running Chumby OS. I thought this would be great to reduce the need of demands on the computer, and the otherwise outdated iPod I have.

It would have been great. Have an alarm clock, weather, and even email notification on a nice 7” screen. And with Pandora, as well as other Internet radio support – it would be pretty capable. And why shouldn’t it. It’s a 600Mhz CPU (faster than my My Touch), 256MB storage for the Chumby apps, and a USB port. Even though the $200 price tag would have been high, it would have been a great compliment to my needs, especially since Archos butchered the Android OS and therefore no Market Apps for their devices.

Behind the Scenes and Under the Covers

April 16th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

I have been a big user of Google Voice considering it has a great deal of features, and even allows me to make calls in a way to show my Google Voice number. What does this do? Well, it allows me to hand out one local number, and decide how I want calls to reach me. However, in Google’s infinite wisdom, and wishing to be different – calling rules are set to the phone number, rather than by a group.

So, if you don’t want to receive calls from your coworkers, after 5PM, you simply set it to not ring your work phone after 5PM, assign the coworker group to that number only, and put all of your coworkers in that group. Great if it actually meant anything. You are probably out the door anyhow after 5PM, and wouldn’t be answering calls anyhow.

Partial Apology to Linksys, Comcast is simply F’d Up

April 9th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

A couple of months ago, I had a problems with Andie and Chris’ home phone where nothing was working, and the router was not providing Internet access. I asked Andie to make sure it was not Comcast’s doing, and Comcast swore up and down it is not their fault. To make matters more deceptive, the PC that is used worked fine when connected directly to the cable modem. So, when the Linksys/T-Mobile router wasn’t working, and no one could get the router to connect, it would only make sense that the router didn’t work, right?

So, a cross shipping of the two routers went through, and the first of replacements had a loose part on the inside, and didn’t work properly when I plugged into the router at home. I called Linksys, and told them I temporarily plugged the router in, and it doesn’t appear to be working properly. They of course told me to plug it in permanently (at the location), and call them if there were problems. This is where it would be Linksys’ fault as the router was truly defective.
