Just found my next ISP. It just has to serve Pittsburgh

I have Consolidated Communications which used to be Nauticom. Nauticom was eventually bought by Penn Telecom, and then eventually bought by Consolidated Communications. Now, any time I have a problem with my service which seems to be more often than not, it is nearly impossible to find me – except when it comes to take the $40 monthly service fee out. And what do I get for that $40? I get barely 3/0.75MBPS connection, a static IP address, and a h#&% lot of a hassle. It is to the point that I am going to make my cell phone a modem at least until I can get my new provider when I am required to move to a new apartment. I don’t want Comcast because of problems I had with them, and they aren’t much better.

Now, I have came across some information that WiMax is supposed to come to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 2010. Now, I will admit, I am not a supporter of WiMax, and feel that LTE will prevail, but I am willing to give them a try. So, what do I have to hope for? Well, hopefully before I move (which I will admit, I am procrastinating), Clear will have service in the city. If so, there will be a $85 charge for the home modem. This will plug into the electrical outlet, and have a RJ-45 LAN port for a router or a PC. In my case, it will be a router. There is no WAN port, as this device connects to cellular communications (much like your cell phone will). This has the advantage of literally picking up and moving my modem anywhere I need to as long as I stay in the 4G coverage map. In addition, I could also get a $100 mobile modem that could literally fit in a side pocket of my backpack. While this is only 5 hours on battery, it might actually be an option. It does have a built in 8 device router. And not that I will see a need, but if I wanted a house phone, the company will also provide a VOIP adapter that will work with their service. This only about $15.

Answer Away!

August 18th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

I have been finding some time in helping people with my thoughts in regards to questions they may ask in a community help forum. This is Yahoo Answers!, and while I am sticking with questions I know the answers too, this is the goal of the site. I have decided to spread the love of my knowledge, and will be posting the questions and answers on my website. This will add content to the this site, and maybe help other people. I will soon add an Answers section to the blog site which is where these answers will be located.

My goal is to make this site a better place, and more productive. In turn, maybe make a more reputable and more visited site on the Internet. Of course, if I am wrong – I will correct myself, and caution myself in future answers. And does this mean that I am becoming a fan of Yahoo, not at all. I don’t like most things about them, but see this as me trying to spread some good in the world.

.Tel Me Something New

June 12th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

A little while ago, I had purchased prvfsp.tel to provide direct, and unique contact information for those that I associate with. However, it would seem as if it hasn’t been as much of a benefit as I would have liked. So, after some careful thought, I have decided to make some changes.

The old way was where every person I had regular contact with would have their own URL. In turn, they would have found information relevant to them only. In other words, if they didn’t use MSN messenger, they would not have seen my MSN Messenger contact. I wasn’t trying to hide it from them, but instead – offered just the information they would have benefited from.

My Music Would Come Mostly from eMusic

May 18th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

I had tried this service a long time ago, and they didn’t have anything I would have wanted. I couldn’t even make use of the 45 free songs. However, after trying it again, I have come to not only find some songs I would have wanted, but would probably continue on with them making them the primary choice for music in the future.

I’m on the $12 plan which would give me 24 credits which would seem to be about 2 albums. I have purchased almost 50 songs with all of the free 45 credits I received during signup. This included some songs that I have fond it a little hard to or expensive to get otherwise.

HP Now Has the Most Expensive Body Part!

April 28th, 2010 Frank Pilone No comments

Original Article ( http://b.fsp.im/1315 )

About an hour ago on Ars Technica, it was posted that Hewlett Packard (aka: HP) who also owns Compaq, and Voodoo PC has bought Palm for $1.2Billion. Actually, it was a surprise to me, and I didn’t see that coming.

Now, the question is what would HP do with Palm? Ars Technica suggested that they would use it for their slate PC. However, I don’t think so. Palm was not up for sale when the Slate was unveiled as a future product. This would mean that HP would have to develop relatively bug free drivers for the slate to include in to the WebOS platform. I just don’t see it. Instead, they would most likely either use Android, or Windows 7.
