2009-11-02: What Happened?
Today was a very long and tedious day, but something I am happy about. Even though I woke up about 3AM this morning (due to going to bed at 8PM with a headache), I managed to eek by on the boredom to wait until about 9:45AM.
The reason I wanted to wait until this time in particular was for the local T-Mobile store to open which they do about 10AM. I contemplated on going to the grocery store, and grabbing a couple of items, but decided not too in case I would have to wait. I was happy I didn’t.
Once I got to the store, I had to wait in line which was OK. One rep suggested that I could use the kiosk if I wanted to pay a bill. I informed her that I was looking to get a new phone. Making sure that both the rep and I seen the same thing, I noted I wanted to get the myTouch. She went to the back, and pulled one out. She asked if I wanted insurance, and I told her I already have insurance on this line. She then informed me that I had to get the $25 data plan. I could have told her that I would only have to do that if I wasn’t paying $400 for the phone, and while the phone isn’t as capable without a data plan, it would work across wifi. Instead I bit my tongue, and informed her that I had the $25 Blackberry plan.
So, new phone, and waiting about an hour for the data to be activated was OK with me. I knew I would have data services once I got home since I have wifi. Sure enough, once I connected the phone to wifi, it allowed me to set up everything including the integration with my Google Account to the phone. In a few seconds, my contacts, calendar, and other things was transferred to my phone.
I did some playing around with it, and eventually had to plug it in. However, as time went on, I started the massive downloading of applications such as Google Voice, T-Mobile Applications, and Twidroid. I also updated Google Maps for the transit times, and schedules. I also fought and wrestled for a couple of hours to get the rims on the head phones to keep the cushion on.
I still have much to do, and would like to find a good RSS reader, and software to download video podcasts so I would be able to rely less on iTunes, and iPod. Seriously, the screen of the phone is almost as long as the iPod Nano. With that in mind, I would rather watch any video podcasts on my phone. I will also like to get a few games. Maybe Chess, and Pac Man.
In addition, I moved the 8GB card from the RIM and plug it into the PC. I took all of the RIM specific folders, and used Windows Media Player to install the music from my favorites to the card, and eventually plug into the phone.
So, now it is time to get ready for tomorrow. No more playing with the phone. I would of course be able to use it when I run a couple of errands tomorrow morning, and I would find reasons to employ the new 3G speeds, and GPS. Still look forward to the potential of Flash so I could watch Hulu.
