UPS does not .zip up!
There has been an email scam going around that has been hitting my SPAM box claiming to be UPS, and there was an undeliverable address and they need you to open the .zip file and fill the information, or what ever is needed to do with .zip files by scam artists these days. I have one word for all of you – DON’T
First, let’s address how things with UPS works. First, UPS has all of the addresses in the area they deliver to. If they do not, they would use GPS and map software to find where they are going. Now, if for some reason, the shipping agent – whether UPS, the UPS store, or anything similar didn’t know how to use the software to find this information, and make sure it was accurate, then it would be stopped at a distribution center. Simply put, no tracking number would be issued because it can’t go anywhere.
Now, UPS will not call you. The stupidity of someone is not in this case your fault, but whomever is shipping the package. They would contact them, and not by email with a .zip file, but most likely by phone. This is all in the very rare event that the package was somehow processed without a tracking number.
UPS does not know your email address unless you give it to them. Usually, you would only give it to them for tracking – hence a tracking number – and therefore a correct address. Now, let’s say all of this still does not work, would they email me now? No, it would be treated as undeliverable, and therefore returned to the sender. UPS is a business, not a good Samaritan who would try every reasonable effort to get this lost item to the rightful owner.
And let’s assume that you would get an email from UPS, they still will not zip up a document, but it would most likely be to call UPS. So people, young and old, smart and stupid – don’t fall for this scam. Don’t infect your PC with a bot, and therefore be forced to try to lure everyone else into this mishap. Just say NO.
